A death certificate is the first legal step in any inheritance case.
Inside Lebanon:
- Deceased’s ID card or civil extract.
- A physician’s medical report.
- Certificate issued by the local mukhtar.
Outside Lebanon:
- Hospital death certificate.
- Submission to the Lebanese embassy/consulate.
- Forwarding to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Ministry of Interior.
Conclusion: Without a death certificate, no legal or financial authority in Lebanon will process inheritance claims.
