What Documents Are Required to Issue a Death Certificate in Lebanon?

A death certificate is the first legal step in any inheritance case.

Inside Lebanon:

  • Deceased’s ID card or civil extract.
  • A physician’s medical report.
  • Certificate issued by the local mukhtar.

Outside Lebanon:

  • Hospital death certificate.
  • Submission to the Lebanese embassy/consulate.
  • Forwarding to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Ministry of Interior.

Conclusion: Without a death certificate, no legal or financial authority in Lebanon will process inheritance claims.
